Lately, I have been focusing a lot on improving my mental health. I try to do anything that will make me happy, even if I have to do it alone. I will enjoy my time being lazy, even if I feel unproductive. I also am not ashamed to do what makes me happy although it may disappoint others sometimes. Taking care of your mental health will make you feel a lot better in the long run.
Do whatever it takes to make you happy. I like going shopping, beach trips, and trying new restaurants. Whenever I have time to do any of these things, I will because it makes me feel happy. Even if I have to go all by myself, I still will go because I need a break and do something I enjoy. It is important to find time to do things you enjoy and make you smile. Don't waste time doing things you don't enjoy or limit yourself because you don't have time. If reading is something you enjoy, try to find 15 minutes in your day to read a book or article. Those 15 minutes can make you feel a lot more satisfied with your day.
I enjoy sleeping in until 1 P.M. when I get the chance. Or if I have days of not doing work or homework. I realized I deserve to have days when I can do nothing. Sometimes I feel bad because I didn't do any type of work but I know there are many more days to do so. Over the last couple semesters, I've focused more on my mental health because doing classes online was stressing me out more than anything. I worked part time and went to class full time. I felt I had no time for myself or to hangout with my friends. I realized I was not doing well mentally or phsycially and needed a break. I would give myself mental health days and take the day off of work or not go to class to just rest. Although I might get behind on a project or in class, my mind and body thanked me for it.
Hi Raigan, I really agree with your idea of having sometime to relax is critical for one's mental health. I once felt burnt out when I was packed by schoolwork, internship and recruiting. I later found myself way too much relaxing when I just spend a Saturday night doing nothing. Listening to some music, reading novels or taking a bath would help a lot.
ReplyDeleteDays where I do nothing related to work or school are the best!! We definitely deserve these days off to relax, do whatever we want, and be as unproductive as we want because we work so hard on all other days. There's no need to feel bad for taking days off!!
ReplyDeleteThankfully I think society is starting to realize the need for this more and more, but still I don't think enough people have come around to it. It seems like so many people are all tied up in the little bubble of their own current existence, and because of this they fail to realize that lazy days are totally alright and as long as they don't happen everyday, they only have a positive effect on one's future. Good thoughts, and stay up!
ReplyDeleteYour post about mental health really got me thinking about how important it is unwind. Don't feel too bad being unproductive. We all deserve some rest from ZOOM University. Also, I am still salty about how useless the Wellness Days were during spring semester because some professors would just assign asynchronous material.
ReplyDeleteHey Raigan, I really liked your post. It is definitely something that I work on with myself, since I feel that I am very stressed and always think about tasks and things that I have to do. I practice relaxation and to let things flow.
ReplyDeleteHi Raigan, this was a great post! Mental health is such an important topic now and should be taken seriously by any person. It was cool to see that you are not afraid to do what you like, even if it is the smallest activity. I am still working on it myself and trying to get out more!
ReplyDeleteMental health is an extremely important issue that needs to be talked about way more. It has affected a lot of people especially during the pandemic. I applaud you for realizing how important it is and giving yourself mental health days. At the end of the day, you are absolutely right that you need to do whatever makes you happy.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this so much. Whenever people ask me what my summer plans are I tell them I'm taking one class and working on my mental health. It takes guts to tune out that voice that tells you you have to be doing what you "should" be all the time and focus on what will really nourish you. Huge props to you for that, and we enjoy a lot of the same activities!
